Amount of Waste Processed in an Environmentally-Sensitive Way

The indicator measures the total amount of waste that was processed in an environmentally sensitive manner thanks to the project’s support. This includes, for example, recycling waste, composting waste, incineration of waste (while using filters to reduce air pollution), or disposing of waste in sanitary landfills. Use this indicator only if in the context of your project it is possible to reliably measure the amount of processed waste.

Determine the indicator's value by using the following methodology:

1) Decide on the methodology for calculating the amount of waste processed. For example, if the project is about supporting a factory to recycle waste, the factory might be able to tell you how many tons of waste they recycled. Other methods might be more demanding – for example, if you promote composting among households, you will have to 1) use a survey to calculate the average amount of waste that an average household composts in a given time period and then 2) multiply it by the number of target households practicing composting (this data will need to come from a KAP survey using a representative sample of the target group members). Be aware that certain waste management methods (such as composting) might be prone to seasonal changes (e.g., people might not be able to make compost during colder months).

2) Calculate the indicator’s value using the selected methodology.
