INDICATOR PHRASING: number of target households who started raising at least one of the promoted types of domestic animals in the course of the project
What is its purpose?
This indicator measures the extent to which the target households started raising at least one of the promoted types of domestic animals after the project started with their promotion.
How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data
Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with a representative sample of the target households:

Q1: Do you raise any [specify the animal species]?
A1: yes / no
Q2: When did you start raising [specify the animal species]?
A2 select one fo the following:
1) Before [specify when the project started promoting these animals]
2) After [specify when the project started promoting these animals]
3) Does not know / remember
To calculate the indicator’s value:
- Count number of respondents whose household started raising at least one of the promoted types of domestic animals after the project started with their promotion
- Divide the number by the total number of respondents (exclude those who did not know)
- Multiply the resulting number by 100 to convert it to a percentage
- Multiply the percentage by the total number of the target households
- The resulting number is the “number of target households who raise at least one of the promoted types of domestic animals”
1) If you work with a small number of households (e.g. up to 400 households), you can interview them all – in such a case, you do not have to use a representative sample of households and do not have to use the calculation described above.
2) Keep in mind that households sometimes take care of animals which are owned by other people. This practice is common for more expensive animals, such as cows. If you need to know whether the person actually owns the animal, include an additional question “Who is the owner of [specify the animal]?”
