INDICATOR PHRASING: Change in number of violent incidents reported at water points (including destruction of infrastructure)

Français: Evolution du nombre d'incidents violents signalés aux points d'eau (y compris destruction d'infrastructures)

What is its purpose?

Indicator designed to measure the impact WASH activities have had on reducing incidents of violence around water points. Water points here mean community-based improved water facilities such as protected springs, community tapstands, or boreholes - it does not mean unimproved water points such as rivers, lakes etc. ""Violence"" can mean physical, sexual, psychological (intimidation, verbal abuse, threats)

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

In order to track and measure this indicator, you will need some sort of baseline against which to measure a reduction. There must also be in place some sort of community mechanism for reporting violent incidents at water points - this may be records held by the water management structure.
Alternatively, questions could be included in a survey conducted at water points at both baseline and endline (as a minimum).

Recommended Survey Question

In the last xx [state appropriate timeframe] have you personally experienced violence when collecting water from [name community water point]? By violence I mean [define scope of violence]Care needs to be taken when asking this question - and it should be asked of the adult responsible for collecting water in the household; if a child is responsible for collecting the water, then the question should not be asked.
